Ramble-y Teaserish Stuff
Somehow this was my first time reading The Secret of Chimneys and I am fairly certain that it is quite possibly one of my favorite light Christie reads. It was, of course, pre-disappearance and, in general, those do tend to feel a bit lighter than the post-Archie stories. There really isn't anything very strenuous about this one which often ends up with it getting negative reviews. It's a giant mish-mash of political and international intrigue, stolen & mistaken identities, murder(s), blackmail, kidnapping, treasure hunting ... and on and on and so on and so forth. Through it all, though, the story stays engaging in large part thanks to Anthony Cade. He's got the humor:
and he most definitely has the swoon-worthiness:

I must admit, I've read very little Christie. I have seen the play version of this. It didn't have Miss Marple. I'd be curious how it compares to the book, not that I remember much about the play any more other than I did enjoy it.
I read many Agatha Christie novels years and years ago, but not much sense, other than a book or two. It was before I tracked what I was reading and so I really can't remember which books of hers I read with a handful of exceptions. I would love to read through her work again at some point, and catch those books I missed. I was such a fan back in the day. The Secret of Chimneys sounds really good and I like the excerpts you share here. I hope you have a great weekend!
The line "...going to hurt like fun" is fantastic. Doesn't it get to the core of many relationships?
I have recently started reading Agatha Christie again. Her works are fascinating. Have a good weekend! https://cindysbookcorner.blogspot.com/2022/01/first-line-friday-36-being-untwisted.html
I haven't read enough of Agatha Christie and I need to fix that.
